Working with me

Contact

Contact me for an initial phone call or email. I am happy to answer any queries you might have and help ascertain whether I may be of service to you.

Initial Meeting

If it looks like I may be able to help, I will suggest an initial face-to-face meeting which will be entirely confidential.

You can see the art therapy space, follow up on any further queries and we can talk in greater depth.

It is also an opportunity for me to gather information. I will ask questions and make notes. This is to ensure you are getting the best intervention for your specific needs.

I will then discuss with you whether and how we can work together, frequency of sessions, cost and payments.

Usually I recommend 4 initial assessment sessions, after which we can decide whether to continue longer term.

You will have the opportunity to go away and think about everything before we take the next step.

Working Together

Once you feel confident that you would like to go ahead with art therapy (or another service) we will agree on a regular day and time for your sessions.

I use a therapy contract which we will look at together, that serves to give you a clear framework. Do not worry about this, you will only sign what you fully agree to and it is reviewed.

All your information is treated confidentially and will not be shared with anybody other than my Clinical Supervisor (who in turn treats all shared material confidentially). This includes the artwork you create in our sessions together.

All your art work will be stored in a folder/box especially for you. I will keep it safe for the duration of your therapy. When we end our work together, you can decide what you would like to do with it.

I suggest regular review sessions, which gives us the opportunity to look at the progress of our work together, possible time frames, and what we may work towards.

The art therapy space

My art therapy practice is adjacent to my home with a separate entrance.
It is easy reach me by public transport, with bus stops (‘Perry Road’ and ‘Leonard Avenue’) close by within walking distance. If you travel by car, there is on-street parking.

Sherwood shops and high street is within 10 minutes walk.

There are a few steps (6), spread out, to access the building. Please contact me for further details if you require disability access.

The art therapy room

My practice is self-contained with a separate entrance. There is a waiting area with access to a toilet and the art therapy room is to the rear of the building. It is bright and sunny, with a beautiful view over the garden with mature shrubs and trees. It is quiet and not overlooked, offering privacy, even on warmer days, when the door can be opened to benefit from the peaceful surroundings.

In the room, there is a sink and a variety of art materials as well as objects for you to choose from. The room is designed for creative use, and I recommend you wear comfortable clothes which you don’t mind getting dirty.

The waiting area

You enter the therapy practice into the waiting area. There is seating as well as tea/coffee making facilities and access to a toilet.

This space is good for adults accompanying and waiting for children/ young people, especially during initial sessions. You can let yourself in and out, for additional flexibility.
